Calcutt to Folly Pie & back
(6 miles, 6 locks, 4 engine hours)
Today
we have our good friends Chris & Alan on board. Alan has been on a
narrowboat before when he came with us for a 5 day cruise on Scimitar
a few years ago. Chris has never been on a narrowboat before.
The day started
with a full tour of Per Angusta which took some time because Alan is a
carpenter and found lots to admire in her construction.
As we went through
Calcutt locks, we gave Chris a short lesson in the theory - but I don't
think she 'got' it. When we were coming back, she wanted to know why we
couldn't just open all the locks so that the canal would be at the same
level!
We lunched on
board, as per usual, and I am getting used to the cooking facilities now.
They are a bit of a change from home where we use a Rayburn rather than
a gas or electric cooker. Problem is I don't know what the gas cooker
should be set at - so we now have a set of Delia's cook books on board.
The weather today
was a lot less windy than yesterday - still, I suppose if I'd had the
calm weather I wouldn't have learnt as much. Nothing planned boat wise
for the next two weeks and then we are going away for a long weekend with
Steve, Kirsty and Toby.
